why: After reducing the lo-fi sound from their newest record and introducing some heavier guitar riffs, Surfer Blood sounds a lot more like indie rock and less like their beachy influences this year. But their roots still show themselves, especially with the dreamy chorus and Pitts’s hazy vocals. It’s understandable how the band has been compared to fellow Californian band Weezer lately.
